Indians quickest, but only in sex

WHEN IT comes to sex, Indians do not believe in wasting time. A new global survey on sexual wellbeing reveals Indians spend the least amount of time on sex – spending just 13 minutes in each session – as compared to the global l8. Nigerians are the greatest lovers, spending as much time as 24 minutes on every encounter Indians, however, seem to be quite satisfied with their brief encounters. As many as 61 per cent Indians surveyed said they were fully satis- fied with their sex lives, compared to 44 per cent worldwide. This, despite the fact that only 46 per cent Indians surveyed said they had an orgasm regularly. India’s satisfaction level was third, with Nigerians being the most satisfied – 67 per cent, followed by Mexicans – 63 per cent. In contrast, the Japanese – at 15 per cent – are the least fulfilled. These were the findings of the condom-maker Durex’s Global Sexual Wellbeing Survey of over 26,000 people across 26 countries. Indian women were more satisfied than men, with two-thirds say- ing they are satisfied with their sex lives compared to 58 per cent men. The findings further reveals that Indians on average have sex 130 times a year, considerably more than the global average of 103. The Greeks, at 164 times a year, lead the most amorous life. Brazilians (145 times) clock in next, followed by the Poles and the Russians (both 143). While more than two-thirds (67 per cent) of Indians say their sex lives are exciting, 55 per cent said it needed a little experimentation, with telephone sex and massage included as foreplay. The new study identifies ways in which Indians could boost their satisfaction levels even further, with almost half of all Indians (47 per cent) craving for an injection of more love and romance. The study was conducted online between August and September 2006. Besides India, the participating countries were Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, Hong King, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, UK and the US. sanchitasharma@hindustantimes.com
